Docent Program

Join the FAM Volunteer Team and Become a Docent!

The Fresno Art Museum is always seeking individuals who care about people, are excited about sharing their knowledge, and most of all, love and care about art. If you have a background in customer service, art history, or education, all the better, but not required.

Our docent training is more than just learning about art and our exhibitions. We want to give you the tools to be able to identify your audience and adjust the information you share.  As a docent at the FAM, you will not just disseminate facts, you will actively involve visitors in looking at art and give them the tools to learn to look, observe, and appreciate art on their own. Your main role as docent is to make your audience feel welcome by sharing your enthusiasm and inspiring them to learn more and come back on repeat visits. We also encourage our docents to be open to trying new techniques of communicating with the public.

New training sessions usually correspond with new exhibition openings. Normally, new exhibitions open in January, May and September. Please call or email Susan about this great opportunity!
